At the age of 80, of Bradenton, Florida, formerly of Sault Ste. Marie. She died peacefully in her sleep on February 27, 2018, with her husband Patrick Cherry and longtime family friends, Robert and Carole Irwin by her side after a long battle with cancer. Beloved wife of the late Ralph Fitton of 37 years (April 1993). Her husband Patrick Cherry survives Jeannette. Beloved mother of (late) Michael, Paul (Julie) Alberta, Jim (Michelle), and Vickie Hewitt (Doug) Oregon. Loving and supportive Grandmother to Cassidy, Yanoe, Jasmin, Chantelle (Perry), (late Jessica), Sarah (Thibaut), Rebecca, Ryan (Lauren), Emilie (Rick), Hannah (Ben), Ruthie (Florian), Jesse (Krista), Matthew, Benjamin, Karen (Charles), Isaac (Miranda) and Philip. Proud Great Gramma to Adeline, Noa, Lana, Jackson, Kaden, Enola, Declan, Julian, (late) Millie, and Cohen. Sister to (late) Hank Gattie, Marie VanHuyse, (late) Florence Rousselle, Joseph Fairbrother, Leo Gattie, Daniel Gattie, and Charles Gattie. Sister in law too (late) Robert Fitton (Sharon), Nellie (late Jim Miller), and Berniece (Tom) Keene.
Jeannette is preceded in death by her parents, Agnes Trudeau and John Gattie, Maternal grandparents, Victoria Peltier and Gabriel Trudeau of Wikwemikong, ON, Paternal Grandparents, Francis Gattie and Annie Quinn of Walford, ON, father and mother in law, John and Myrtle Fitton (VanLuevan.)
Jeannette will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Jeannette was born in Blind River, Ontario on September 24, 1937. She graduated from Sault Collegiate and continued on to receive a Nursing Diploma from Algoma Regional School of Nursing. Jeannette worked as a nurse for the Sault Ste. Marie General Hospital for 25 years. She retired in Florida and worked in home care for many years. She enjoyed time well spent with family and friends, traveling, reading, and a good game of cribbage.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Sault Ste. Marie Conservation Sugar Shack, at 1100 Fifth Line East. Stephen Clock will be officiating. Service and Visitation will be held August 4, 2018. Service will be at 1 p.m. and visitation and refreshments to follow. Cremation has already taken place.
