Georg Antero Federley, aged 75, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on October 29, 2024, at the Sault Area Hospital.
Georg was a dedicated Senior Technical Specialist Mechanical Engineering at Algoma Steel, where his expertise, organization, and attention to detail were greatly valued.
Georg had a profound passion for aviation, which extended into his hobby of designing, building, and flying RC airplanes and drones, along with staying up to date with the latest advancements in technology. His interests provided him immense joy, and his contributions fostered a community of friends who shared his enthusiasm. He had a lifelong intense love for learning, which he shared with everyone around him, enriching, inspiring, and encouraging others to see the world through a different lens.
Georg was generous and kind and will live on in the hearts, minds, and actions of his family, friends, and those that knew him. He is survived by his loving wife, Liisa, and their children, Jaana (Peter), Tiina, and Richard (Jannah). Georg was a cherished grandfather and will forever be loved and remembered by his grandchildren Tyler, Calvin, Miikka, Alexa, and Kai. He also leaves behind his siblings, Helen (Howie) and Reijo (Linda), and brother-in-law Heikki Aho (Kathy). He was a remarkable uncle to several nieces and nephews, holding a special place in their hearts and memories. Georg was preceded in death by his parents Antero and Hellin Federley, sister Riitta (Gord), and sister-in-law Lilja Sands.
Georg will be remembered for his sharp intellect, vast knowledge on an endless array of topics, ability to fix anything for anyone, a warm heart, exceedingly generous spirit, and the deep bonds he formed with his family and friends. His legacy will continue to live on through those he inspired. We are all profoundly proud, happy and so much better for having had him in our lives. He will be missed more than words could ever express.
The family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the staff of 3A and ICU, and particularly Debbie, for their valiant efforts that went above and beyond to take care of Georg, as well as the family.
