It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Teresa Fernandes Da Cunha, with her children by her side at Mackenzie Health in Richmond Hill on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at the age of 68.
She lived a great part of her childhood where she was born in Ponte da Barca, Portugal until her family moved to Canada where she then called Sault Ste. Marie home. Teresa was the loving daughter of Maria Conceicao Da Cunha and (late) Julio Cunha and sweet dear sister of (late) Adriana Da Cunha. A most wonderful mother, Teresa will be profoundly missed by her two daughters, Andrea Duraes and Deanne (Sean) Renshaw, and by her husband, Antonio. Teresa's most cherished family were her two grandchildren, Jaxon and Gabriella, who will always have the fondest memories of Grandma. Teresa will be missed by all of her family and friends, cousins Joe (Cathy and Matthew, Lauren), Adriano (Marnie), Perry (Anne and Adrian, Aaron, Ryan) in Canada, and by much family and many friends in her beloved Portugal.
Teresa worked as a nurse in various hospitals and in private care. Teresa was a compassionate and caring person to all she met, enjoyed researching family history, was quick to laugh and most of all, loved conversation with family and friends.
Friends are invited to visit Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. East 705-759-2522) on Thursday, May 19, 2022 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 11:00 am at Precious Blood Cathedral (777 Queen St. E., Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario). The family extends their gratitude for all the love shown by many cherished friends of Teresa who have supported them during this difficult time.
