Art’s family regretfully announce his passing Tuesday, July 12, 2022, after a brief illness at the age of 85.
At the time of his death, he was surrounded by the love of his children Edward and Laura, his stepchildren Christopher and Stephanie (Elwgren) and his grandchildren Jacob Ritchie, Collin and Braedon Whalen, Ella and Willow Elwgren (and mother Lisa).
His good-natured teasing will be missed by his sister Edith Grimwood as well as many nieces and nephews.
Art is now peacefully reunited with his wife Brenda, who he missed dearly. He was also predeceased by parents Arthur and Nellie (Strand) Denning and sister Eleanora Steeves.
Art will be remembered fondly as a man who was always eager to help his friends and strangers alike, for his great sense of humour, his love of sailing, snowmobiling, flying, trailering and his skilled mechanical repairs. “Art could fix anything”. He was an active man, involved in many organizations such as the Sault Trailblazers, Royal Canadian Legion and Sea Cadets, and the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre.
After Brenda’s death, Art continued to visit the staff and volunteers at the VON Algoma Adult Day Program with whom he found support and friendship. As such, memorial donations to this program or Northern Critters in Need would be gratefully accepted. (Payable to or online).
As per Art wishes, there will be no services.
