As we grieve his loss, we also celebrate his life.
The family of Glen Currie announces his peaceful passing at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH) on May 17, 2021.
Family, friends and farming were the foundation on which Glen built his life. He married his loving wife Joan (nee Brown) in December 1954 and, together, they raised four wonderful children, Jennifer (Jack Freiburger), Kim, Tim (Julie), and Barbara (Nando Silveri).
Glen was very proud of his grandchildren, Lindsey, Leslie, Chris, Elissa, Daniel, Emilie, Andrew, Anthony and Alex. He was also a loving great-grandfather to Kenzie, Grayson, Jackson, Lena and Mia.
Glen was born on February 15, 1925 to William and Eliza Currie. He was predeceased by his brothers Norman, Bert, Walter and Ken, and his sister Tena Hermiston. He is survived by his sister, Rhona McLarty, as well as many nieces and nephews who will always remember him with much love and respect.
Glen farmed the property his parents had settled on in the early 1900’s and, though he sold the farm several years ago, he never really retired. He was an active member of the Algoma Cattlemen’s Association, and was honoured with a lifetime achievement award in 2014.
Glen and Joan operated Morest Camp on Bright Lake for many years, renting nine cabins to guests who invariably became friends. He worked hard and loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting with his siblings, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was an inspiration to so many, enriching the lives of those who knew him. He will be missed.
With COVID restrictions in place, a celebration of Glen’s life will be held at a future date. Memorial donations can be made to ARCH directly online at www.archhospice.ca or by mailing a cheque to ARCH Hospice, 229 Fourth Line West, Sault Ste. Marie, ON P6B0B5. Donations to a charity of your choice would also be appreciated by his family. Arrangements entrusted to Beggs Funeral Home.
