“Sailed “into the Mystic” on August 20, 2022 in the loving comfort of his wife and soulmate, Lisa’s arms, after a short but brave battle with cancer at the young age of 54. Loving son of Brian Culligan (Tarja) of Finland and Alison Tame (late Alec) of Cape Town, South Africa. Loving brother of Sean Culligan (Lynell) of Calgary, Barry Culligan (Linda) and Julie Fischer (Mark) of Cape Town, South Africa. Father of Jessica Culligan (Dirk), Ami Culligan (Kyle) and Shannon Culligan (Kyle). Adored Stepfather and cherished friend to Brittany Hoover (Luke) of Sarnia, Jordan Hoover (Mikayla) and Brock Hoover (Nicole) of Sault Ste. Marie. Loved uncle to so many. Respected colleague to all those who worked with him.

At Steven’s request, a private celebration of life was held at his lake shore home on July 8, 2023, attended by close family and friends from far reaches of the world.

Steven was born in Montreal, Quebec, but grew up in South Africa where he spent much of his time searching out the perfect wave to surf upon. He created many unforgettable, adventure packed, and loving memories with his family and friends there

He moved back to Canada in 1998 at which time he started his career with Pollard Banknote in Winnipeg as a Production Technician. He quickly transitioned to more senior roles including Marketing Manager, Manager of Game Planning and then to Sault Ste. Marie as Plant Manager to start up the operations in support of the OLG contract. He was promoted to Director of Canadian Finishing in 2018 relocating back to Winnipeg, where he remained until the time of his passing. Steven’s vision resulted in Sault Ste. Marie becoming a center of excellence in finishing operations, providing the foundation for future achievements for his colleagues and friends throughout the company. He was an inspirational leader and mentor, who always left a positive imprint on the lives of those who knew him.

Special thanks to his Pollard Banknote family in Winnipeg, who made it possible for Steven to return to his Lakeshore Drive home where he would spend his final days in the loving comfort and care of his wife Lisa, his adored fur babies, and those he loved the most.

The family would like to extend deep gratitude to so many who supported us during Steven’s illness and after his passing.

Precious memories of family game nights, evenings by the bonfire sharing stories with glasses of his favourite wine, dancing to his favourite music and countless hours spent on the water where he was his happiest.

We will think of you with each sunset and sunrise over the calmness of the bay, in the sound of waves that lap upon our shore, the smell of a steak grilling to perfection, in the sound of the boat starting up at the dock, in each rainbow that appears, in every “Monkey’s Wedding” and in the gentle breeze that blows through the memory tree in our yard.

Until we dance again…
