It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anthony ‘Tony’ Scornaiencki on February 12, 2025, at the age of 77. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda, and children Peter (Rachael) and Chris (Amber). Tony’s greatest joy were his grandchildren. He was a proud and devoted Nono to Caitlyn, Tyler and Jaden.
He was the brother of Tina (Rosario) Coccimiglio, adoring uncle to Scott, LeeAnn, Mary, Roseanne and Theresa. He was brother-in-law to Gord (Glenda) Hubley, Albert (Laurie) Hubley, and Mark (Debi) Hubley. He will be missed by many other nieces and nephews, numerous friends and extended family members. He is now reunited with his beautiful granddaughter Chiara, parents Peter and Angelina, sister Maria, brother-in-law Doug, nephew Bob MacDonald, brothers-in-law Rod, Brian and Barry Hubley.
Tony was born in Dipignano, Italy on June 11, 1947, and moved to Canada at the age of 3. He grew up in Sault Ste. Marie and spent many years working at Algoma Steel in the metallurgical department. He was known for many things, like being an avid collector and tinkerer, his handcrafted decorations made for friends and family, and his famous popcorn. But most of all, he was known for his love of people. He could always be found chatting with friends, lending a hand, and spending time with loved ones at Horseshoe Bay, the mall, Greyhound games and occasionally the casino. His summer projects included harvesting onions and generously sharing them with friends and neighbours. He never missed an opportunity to attend his grandchildren’s hockey games, ringette games, lacrosse games, spelling bees, plays, figure skating, concerts and pageants.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation at O’Sullivan Funeral Home (215 St. James St, SSM) on Friday, February 21, 2025, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. A Celebration of life will be held at Horseshoe Bay at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice in Ottawa would be welcomed (payable online https://www.rogerneilsonchildrenshospice.ca/ways-to-give/ or by cheque).
