On Sunday, December 1, 2024, Marilyn passed away with her loving family by her side at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH). Our hearts are broken, and we have lost the love of a wife and mother at the age of 84 years, after a battle with dementia. Loving wife of Laurent. Devoted and dedicated mother of Christine (Peter), Richard (Bernice), Phillip, Jacques (Christine), Melanie (Mark) and Laurie (Corey). Proud grandmother of 15 and great grandmother of 7. Predeceased by her parents Evelyn and Harold Caple. Sister of Charles (Sharron).
Marilyn worked at Algoma Produce. She met her husband at a ball game. They fell in love and were married on September 29, 1962 at Blessed Sacrament Church. She then moved to Wawa, where her husband worked. Marilyn worked at the Bank of Montreal until the birth of her first daughter in 1965. She then became a stay-at-home mom. She loved to bake and became a great baker making pies, cheesecakes, bread, cookies especially at Christmas time. Marilyn liked to travel to her favourite place, Gaylord, Michigan. She loved car rides and to celebrate events. She celebrated family baptisms, first communions, confirmations and birthdays. She liked to entertain and invite friends on occasions to make them gourmet meals with her husband. She enjoyed visiting friends and going to parties. Marilyn was a faithful Catholic, singing in the choir and she was a member of the Catholic Women’s League. After her fifth child, she started working at the Royal Bank. The family often travelled to Chapleau for holidays where her husband’s parents lived as well as coming to the Sault to visit her dad monthly. Marilyn and Laurent moved back to the Sault in 1998 when Algoma Ore closed, and Laurent was transferred to Algoma Steel. They became parishioners at St. Joseph the Worker until it closed and then moved to Holy Family Parish on Second Line. Marilyn continued as a member of the Catholic Women’s League, where she helped make apple pies and meat pies for fundraisers. She also helped at St. Vincent Place, preparing meals once a month. She was always ready to help those in need.
Friends and family are invited to a brief period of visitation at Holy Family Parish on Friday, December 6, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. with Father Boguslaw Jaroszek officiating. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District, Heart & Stroke Foundation or ARCH would be greatly appreciated by the family.
The family would like to thank Dr. Schamp for the years of care and the staff and doctors who helped Marilyn during her time of sickness. A very special thank you to Dr. Kargbo for her medical expertise, compassion and kindness. Also, a heartfelt thank you to ARCH for the care and compassion shown to Marilyn. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758). www.northwoodfuneral.com
