John (Jack) Gilbert Cleminson (1924-2003) passed away peacefully at the Plummer Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, February 19, 2003 with his family by his side. Loving husband of Kay (Fortin) for 53 years. He leaves behind his children, Judy of 100 Mile House, B.C., Fred (Delise) of Novi, Michigan, Jacquie of Ottawa and Scott (Elaine) of Sault Ste. Marie. Close friend of Heidi Devine of Ottawa. Proud grandfather of Michael and Jennifer Pitt, Jason (Jessica), Brian (Laura) and Kevin Cleminson, Andrea, Jeffrey and Taylor Cleminson and Brittany Cleminson. Great grandfather of Michael Cleminson. Predeceased by his father, Fred and mother Clara. Also survived by his brother Ron (Lois) of Ottawa and predeceased by his sister, the late Winnifred. Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Jack was a graduate of Sault Collegiate Institute and started his working career at the Algoma Central Railway in the tradition of his father and grandfather before joining the Sault Ste. Marie Police Department in 1945. His police career spanned 42 years in which he served the citizens of Sault Ste. Marie from the ranks of constable to inspector. Jack was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners. A well-known citizen, Jack will be missed. Friends may call at the Northwood Funeral Home (942 Great Northern Road, 945-7758 on Friday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Luke's Cathedral on Saturday, February 22 at 11:00 a.m. with the Very Reverend Gary Dobinson officiating. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial donations made to the Alzheimer's Society or to St. Luke's Columbarium Fund would be appreciated by the family.
