Michael J. Chlebus, 70, of Rome, NY passed away peacefully on December 9, 2021, with his family by his side. He was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada, on August 26, 1951, first son of the late John and Madeline (Yorke) Chlebus.

Prior to attending Alexander Henry High School, Michael was enrolled in the Sea Cadets which he enjoyed immensely. On June 27, 1981, he was united in marriage to Patricia Duell. They shared a happy union of 40 years.

He and Patty lived in Sault Ste. Marie before relocating to Rome, NY in 1982. In Sault Ste. Marie, Michael worked at Abitibi Pulp and Paper Mill and then worked at Algoma Steel in Unfinished Auto Parts.

After moving to Rome, he worked at Camden Wire and later owned and operated Giufre’s Liquor Store in Canastota. Michael had several passions. In Canada he enjoyed hunting and fishing. In Rome his greatest passion was golf. He enjoyed playing many rounds with his friends at Rome Country Club.

Michael is survived by his loving wife, Patty as well as their two daughters and sons-in-law, Shannon and Charles Martin of Rome NY, and Lindsay and Ryan Perks of TX, and his four grandchildren, Charlotte and Austin Martin and Logan and Rylee Perks.

Brother of the late Karen Draycott, Michael will be lovingly missed by his two sisters, Diane Lariviere and Terry Moore (Randy) of Sault Ste. Marie, his brothers, Brian Chlebus (Janet) of Kitchener, and David Chlebus (Val) of Sault Ste. Marie, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 13th at 6:00 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, NY.
