Alice Louise Childs, 92 of Hope, passed away surrounded by her family on July 23, 2024 at Avielle Haven in Midland, MI. She was born to the late William and Mabel (Stanford) Bates on November 1, 1931 Alice married the love of her life John (Jack) Childs on June 1, 1951 in Hope, MI and they shared forty-five loving years together.

Alice graduated from Midland High School in 1949. Alice was long time member of Open Door Baptist Church in Midland, very strong in her faith and a witness to others. She was active in the Mills Senior Center, supported many missionaries through Hope Baptist Church and Open Door Baptist Church. She was a stay at home mom, a farmer’s wife who maintained a large garden, a room mother that went on countless field trips, Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout den leader and Awana leader. She was very competitive in games especially Dominoes and Wii Bowling She was well known for her wedding cake creations and Christmas cookie baking skills. Overall, Alice was accepting and kind to everyone; her actions spoke volumes about her life.

Alice is survived by her daughter; Carol (late Bill) Martynuck of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario; sons, Wayne (Kathy) Childs and Elgin (Lori) Childs of Hope. Brother; David (Sandra) Bates of Hope, sister in-law; Joan Blankenstein of Grand Rapids. Grandchildren; Christine Newman, Craig (Stephanie) Martynuck, Justine Martynuck, Jonathon (Zunita) Cummins, Kenneth Childs, Dori (Jan) Allen, Laura (Carl) Leeck and Samantha Nelson. Great grandchildren; Shane Biron, Dylan Newman, Caleb Martynuck, Chloe (Daniel) Holman, Titus Martynuck, Gabe Martynuck, Kassandra, Jacob, Angele, Andrea, Joshua, Michael and Danielle Patry, Natalie and Naomi Cummins, Kristopher Allen, Lance (Taylor) Childs, Nicolas Allen, Andrew Allen, Memphis Nelson and Luke Leeck. Also survived by a daughter & son from the heart, Diane and Ron Harper along with many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Childs; siblings; William (Billy) Bates, Shirley Lowell, and Nellie Jane McGraw. In- laws, Frances Restainer, Ed Childs, Marriell Butler

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at Open Door Baptist Church with Pastor Jody Ellis officiating - 6200 Sturgeon Avenue Midland, Michigan. The family will be accepting friends and family for visitation from 10 to 11 am. Interment will follow the funeral at noon at New Hope Cemetery (E Shearer Road Hope, Michigan)

In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Open Door Baptist Church of Midland and Seasons Adult Day Health Services Group of Midland in her honor.
