Joanne Chevrier, a beacon of laughter and courage in her community, peacefully passed away on September 24, 2024, at her residence in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Born on September 3, 1954, in Kapuskasing, Ontario, Joanne's vibrancy and loving nature were evident from an early age and remained her hallmark throughout her 70 years.

Renowned for her sharp wit and warm heart, Joanne was the treasured mother and best friend of Michael McCrea, and a cherished sister of Gerald Chevrier (Sally) and Michel Chevrier (Karen Moorcroft), and the late Marc Chevrier (Chris), and leaves behind a legacy through her many loving nieces and nephews. Her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she nurtured each relationship with the same selflessness and devotion that defined her character.

For four decades, Joanne was the friendly face that greeted customers at Gilles Barbershop on Bruce Street. She was not simply a fixture at the barbershop but an integral part of the fabric of her community, remembered as much for her skilled shears as for her ability to dispense joy with every haircut.

Joanne’s congeniality and spirited conversation turned first-time clients into lifelong friends, and her retirement was widely felt by all who had come to rely on her for more than just a trim.

Joanne’s interests extended far beyond her work. Her garden was a testament to her love of nature, with every bloom and plant carefully tended to reflect the beauty she saw in the world. Retirement allowed her to cultivate this passion further, dedicating more time to the soil and the serenity it provided.

Above all, Joanne was lauded for her humour, her courage in the face of life's challenges, and her boundless love for those fortunate enough to be in her orbit. She faced life as she did her battles: head-on, with a smile, and an unshakeable determination that inspired all who knew her.

Joanne Chevrier's legacy will live on in the laughter of her loved ones, the gardens she tended, and the countless memories shared with a woman who was truly one of a kind. Her luminous spirit will be deeply missed but joyously remembered.

As per Joanne’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family gathering will be held at a later date. Memorial donations made to Sault Area Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to O’Sullivan Funeral Home, 215 St. James Street, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, P6A 1P7, 705-759-8456.
