CATES, M. Jane (nee Hood)
June 24, 1952 – November 24, 2023
Surrounded by love, Jane passed away quietly at the Algoma Manor after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s at the age of 71. Will be sadly missed by her loving husband Ken. Devoted mother and friend of Wayne Cates (Jessie), Danielle Cates and Laura Cates (Adam Timbers). Cherished Gramma of Otis, Lyla, Monroe and Fletcher. Forever loved by her mother Judi Hood, brothers Robin (Yvonne) and Patrick (Lynn) as well as sisters Mary (Ken) and Vicky (Stan). Her dog Raven and cats Josee and Spotty will deeply miss her. Predeceased by her father Robert “Papa” Hood and her mother Pat Grove (late John).
Jane loved nature, animals, farming, gardening and spending time with her family. She was a longtime secretary at Grey Highlands High School in Flesherton, ON. Later, Jane obtained her AZ Licence and she and Ken worked as long-haul truckers in both Canada and the US. They retired to Northern Ontario, bought and renovated an 1877 log cabin fulfilling her lifelong pursuit of living a simpler life.
