Came for a Year and Stayed for a Lifetime.

Lesley Mary San Cartier (nee Griffiths) passed away from metastatic cancer (liver and lung) on Aug 13, 2024. She was born Mar 26, 1939 in Birmingham England to Donald Griffiths (deceased 1968) and Joan Griffiths (nee Gresswell, deceased 1995). Graduated from Queen Elizabeth School of Nursing (Birmingham University) combined General Nursing and Orthopaedics 1961. Answered an advertisement in a newspaper to provide nursing care in Northern Ontario in 1962. Took the Queen Mary ocean liner to Montreal, the train to Spragge and then a pick up truck ride up Hwy 108 to St Joseph’s General Hospital in Elliot Lake. Her plan was to stay for a year and she ended up working for 30 years there and spending 62 years in Elliot Lake.

Tolerant wife of Ronald San Cartier (deceased 2009) and mother of 5 children, Richard (wife Susan, grand-children Emma and Avery), David (deceased 1967), Connie, Steven and Heather.

Non stop knitter, crafter, maker of butter tarts and fudge. Dedicated devourer of chocolate. Volunteer for Special Olympics, Club 90 and the Harvest Kitchen for many years. You never had to wonder what was on her mind as she most likely had just told you.

Friend to a wonderful cast of characters, many former nurses and residents in Elliot Lake and beyond. Too many to mention individually but I know Cleta Sarich will tell me who I should have named.

A special thanks for all those that were able to see her in her last few days. She was extremely grateful for those visits and the wishes she received by phone, mail and internet. As per her wishes she will be cremated and she asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel & Cremation Centre (36 Ontario Ave). Online condolences to the San Cartier family may be made at www.elliotlakefuneralchapel.com
