W. Ann Brauer, who was born 22 July 1939, died on 12 May 2020 at the Grace Hospice, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Ann died, after a brief battle with cancer, under the excellent care of the hospice staff and in the loving company of her children. Ann leaves behind her sons, Christopher and Thomas, and three grandchildren, as well as her sister Marilyn Brideaux and her brother Jim Baker.

She studied anthropology at the University of Toronto and became a respected and well-loved high school teacher and librarian. The highlights of her life were studying at St. Hilda’s College, Toronto, and teaching the kids of Central Algoma Secondary School (Desbarats, Ontario) alongside colleagues who became life-long friends. She loved to read and culled her extensive book collection many times to make space for more books. She lived most of her life in the Sault Ste. Marie area and, in later life, she followed her children west to Edmonton and then Winnipeg.

Ann loved the Anglican Church and served as a lay reader in the Diocese of Algoma at The Church of the Redeemer in Thessalon and as Chaplain to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 211, Bruce Mines. She found a warm and caring community at Christ Church in Edmonton for many years. Finally, she was a vestry-member of All Saints Anglican Church, Winnipeg, from 2016 until her death. Ann’s family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the Rev. Brent Neumann, and the clergy, staff and people of All Saints for their friendship, kindness, and care during a difficult time. And to all her church communities, who gave her care, community and purpose through her life.

We are finally able to have an in-person public memorial for our mum, and this will take place at the Anglican Church of the Redeemer, 257 Main St, Thessalon on Tuesday July 19, 2022, at 7:00 pm.
