Peacefully, surrounded in love by her daughters and her sisters, at the Sault Area Hospital on Thursday, April 13, 2023.

Cherished mother of the late Susan Anne Hill, Karen Ross (late Mervyn) of Sault Ste. Marie, Debbie Gibbins (Simon Walker) of Dundas, and Robert Hill of Brantford. Beloved wife of the late Jules Bourck , (and the late Robert Hill). Fun loving and deeply loved “Grams” of Amanda Ross (Chris Gramola), Cody Ross, Cal Gibbins (Anna), Nikki Gibbins (Dan Acosta), Kendra Lumb, and David Johnson (Erika).
Adored “Gigi” of Axel-Gray, Steele, and Zephyr Gramola; Evan and Jacob Gibbins; Hudson and Mikayla Acosta. Marlene was the daughter of the late Edna and James Payette. Sister of Marie Booth (late Gerald) Evelyn Theriault (late Gerard), James Payette, Joan Morden, Jack  Payette (Diane), Doris Payette, the late Linda Payette, and Brenda Morden. Daughter-in-law of the late Dorothy and Howard Hill, sister-in-law of the late Janice Hill (Ron Laliberte), and the late Bud Hill. Marlene will be sadly missed by so many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Marlene led a very active and fulfilling life. She played baseball, volleyball, bowled, swam, and retired after working over 25 years for Sears. Her life-long passion though was bowling, and she was still bowling twice a week! She bowled on lanes all over Canada and the United States, including in Reno and Las Vegas, in numerous tournaments, and was especially proud of having bowled on TV -in the World Cup Championships at the Lakehead. She was actively involved as treasurer or secretary in her bowling leagues throughout many years. She was a proud member of the Sault Rising Stars- a local group of golden-aged performers doing skits, songs, and humour about senior’s health and well-being. Marlene also enjoyed performing around the Algoma District with the Senior Singers - check it out on You-Tube/Sault Online ONNtv! She liked to travel, sit around a campfire, had a great sense of humour, and loved an enthusiastic game of cards (she was actually a bit of a shark). Marlene was a “spitfire”, and was the life of every family party, singing and dancing into the wee hours! We know she will continue the merrymaking up in heaven.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to SSM EMS, the staff of the SAH Emergency Department, and 3C for their kindness and concern in caring for our mother; and also to her physicians Drs. Evans, Deshauer, Weatherall, Buehner, and Bowen who were so attentive and compassionate.

A Memorial Mass will be held in Holy Family Parish (208 Prentice Avenue) on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at 5:00 p.m., Father Boguslaw Jaroszek officiating. Family and friends are invited to a visitation following from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the downstairs at the Church. Memorial donations made payable by cheque or online to the North Crest Youth Bowling League would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East 705-759-2522). Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for Marlene’s family.
