With great sadness we announce the passing of Italia Bossio (nee Cuglietta) on the morning of January 15th, 2025, at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH) at the age of 84.

Surrounded by her loved ones near and far, Italia left this world as she lived in it as the centre of her loving family. We are comforted that she is now reunited with the love of her life Daniele (predeceased March 5, 1990).

Cherished sweet mama of Bruno (Lina), Fulvio, and Anna (Tom), her three granddaughters Crystal (Tim), Daniela and Brianne (Morgan) and her great-grandson Henry.

Born in Aiello Calabro, Italy, to the late Teresa and Giuseppe on September 27th, 1940. Sister of the late Maria (late Nicola), late Benito (Maria), late Francesco (late Eugenia), late Angelo (late Ortenza), late Antonio (late Lucia), late Antoinetta (late Gioacchino), late Lucia (late Francesco), late Italo, and Franco (Anne).

She leaves behind her siblings-in-law Paolo (Rosanna), Lina (late Luigi), Paolina (Giuseppe), Maria (late Benito), and Silvana as well as many nieces and nephews and their families in Canada, France and Italy, all of whom she loved dearly. She will also be remembered by her special cousin and friend Rosaria of Texas, USA; and many other special cousins who were always kind and caring through the years.

Upon her emigration to Canada in 1969, Italia formed close bonds in her neighborhood that became lifelong cherished friendships. She was a woman of faith, who prayed each night for all of her loved ones, she was a socialist at heart and was always up for a conversation about politics and how to make her community and world a better place (right up to the end). She was a consummate hostess and always ensured everyone who sat at her table was well-fed and caffeinated.

The Bossio family extends their gratitude and thanks to the nurses and doctors at Sault Area Hospital, including Dr. Ladak for his thoughtful care in the ER and Dr. Booth, Dr. White and Dr. Law and the nurses on 3C (especially her night nurse Chris) who cared for her in her last days as well as the staff at ARCH whose compassionate and respectful care on her last night and morning was so appreciated.

In her memory, her granddaughters Brianne and Daniela add:

My dear Nana, thank you for being the most special Nana. I love you so much & will miss you. - Love you Nana, Daniela xo

I will continue to hear the melody of the song you sang to me, and I will carry it with me everywhere I go. Forever in my heart, Brianne xox
