It is with broken hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Ernie, surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the age of 89. He leaves behind his loving wife of 65 years, Joan. Devoted father of Ernie Jr. (Cathy), Monique Johnson (Victor), and Denise Moss (Neal). He will always be remembered by his adoring grandchildren, Bryan (Laura), Kevin (Danielle), Jessica, Jamie and Stephanie (Robert). He was not only a proud grandfather, but the proud great-grandfather of Damian, who was the apple of his eye. Ernie will also be remembered as a fun-loving brother-in-law, uncle, and an amazing friend to many.
Family was the most important thing in the world to him. Any time his family gathered, whether it be for a birthday, a holiday, or even just an impromptu dinner, it was the best of times. Ernie was a proud employee of Algoma Steel Tube Division for 35 years, before retiring in 1992. In the summer months he could be found in his garden where his green thumb provided many people with delicious vegetables. He spent many great years at Camp 55 with his buddies and his "little woman" Joan. At Camp 55 he caught countless fish and made amazing memories. He was an avid Soo Greyhounds fan and was a season ticket holder for many years.
At Ernie’s request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH) or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and caregivers in the emergency department and on 3C at the Sault Area Hospital. Thank you to Jennifer Hendrie for your support and compassion. Thank you to Dr. Schamp, Mary, and Lisa for your care and kindness.
Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758). www.northwoodfuneral.com
