May 4, 1953 to January 31, 2025. Gordon passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Algoma Residential Community Hospice on Friday, January 31, 2025 after waiting patiently for his daughter and grandson to arrive to join his son and wife.
Gordon got to spend 49 years married to the love of his life Alexandra Benson (Wilding). He cherished his children Alexandra (AJ) and Matthew (Melissa). Gordon was lucky to have met his grandson Kash who was his pride and joy. Caring brother of Greg (Debbie), sister Jennifer and Wayne (Phyllis) Larson, Brother-in-law Ted and Sister-in-law Shirley Niel, and the late Sister-in-law Pat Stewart, nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his grandpuppies Oakley and Molly. Gordon will be joining his Father Keith, Mother Geneva, Stepmother Marie Benson and Son-in-law of the late Alexander and Alice Wilding. He will also be joining many of his beloved dogs.
Gordon retired from Algoma Steel after over 30 years, where he was a welder/rigger and earned the nickname Rambo. Never idle, he promptly embarked on a new adventure as a Noon Hour Aide for the Algoma District School Board till he retired at the beginning of Covid. He enjoyed working with the students and staff at Greenwood Public School.
Gordon joined the Militia at 16 years of age beginning with Remy, 49th Service Battalion and the 26th Service Battalion where he retired as a Warrant Officer. He made many long-lasting friends. He was proud to serve, and the army was very dear to his heart.
Ranger Lake was Gordon’s legacy to pass on to his children and grandchild. He spent many years building the camp, teaching his children to fish and hunt. Gordon made many friends at Ranger Lake that he considered his family and will be greatly miss. Gord was looking forward to having more fish fries and mac and cheese with his nephew Gord and Sonja. He always liked to share a beer and have some laughs when anyone visited.
He will always be remembered for the number of homemade ice cream cakes he devoured and the sausage making sessions.
The family would also like to thank the Friends and Family on Moss Road for all the support over the last few years of Gordons journey. The support we received will always be remembered and cherished.
Special thanks to the Dr. Davidson, Dr. Szeto and Dr. Saunders (Health and Sciences Cancer Clinic Sudbury), Dr. Spadafora, Sault Area Hospital Cancer and Radiation Clinic and all their hard-working dedicated staff. Also special thanks to Dr. Booth and the Bayshore nurses as well as ARCH who went above and beyond in insuring Gord was made comfortable during his last days.
As per Gordon's wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East 705-759-2522).
