With unimaginable sadness and broken hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Doug on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at the age of 59. Forever loved and missed by Donna Jaaskelainen (Mitchell). Loving and caring stepfather of Emma and Erikka (John). Son of the late Neil Bennett and the late Joanne Boger (late Gerald). Big brother of Bonnie Netherton (Steve) and Stacey. Beloved uncle, great uncle, cousin, nephew and brother-in-law of many. He will be missed by his lifelong buddy, Rod McLeod, who he loved to spend time with at Patten Lake. He will be missed by his many friends and family in Montreal River, Goulais River, Sault Ste. Marie, Bruce Mines, Patten Lake and Whittemore, Michigan.
Doug had a long career with Algoma Power (Great Lakes Power) where he was a well-known storyteller. He was a quiet man with a thoughtful demeanor. A “Mr. Fix It”, he helped anyone and everyone and always did the job right. He was also the “King of the BBQ” and a damn fine baker, when he put his mind to it. Doug loved nothing more than to spend time at Powwow Point where he hunted.
A celebration of life will be held at the Moose Lodge in May. In memory of Doug, please raise a glass of the good Captain, tell a funny story or lend a hand to someone who needs help.
