BELL, Elwood 'Woody' Kennith Mitchel

On January 26, 2023, Elwood “Woody” Kennith Mitchel Bell passed away at home at the age of 84 after suffering from pulmonary fibrosis and is now resting peacefully.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Ann (nee Bodley) Bell of 45 years, sons; Graham and Brian Bell, stepchildren; Chuck DePlonty (Gerri-Lynn), Herbie DePlonty (Wilma), Shawna DePlonty, Sherri Kern (Michael), the late Jacky Soucie (late Randy), his siblings; Pat Taylor (Lee), Karen Gallivan, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents Violet (nee Reid) and Stewart Bell and also predeceased by his siblings Earl (Candy), Laddy (late Ione), Reg (Catherine), Eunice (late Richard), and the late Connie Summers (late Larry). Son in law of the late Art and late Elizabeth Bodley, and brother-in-law of Chuck Bodley (Shirley) and Diane Ritchie (friend Ron). Uncle to many nieces and nephews. He is also fondly remembered by his fishing partner Mark Dinsmore.

Elwood grew up in Gordon Lake, worked as a locomotive engineer for the ACR and Algoma Steel from where he retired. He was able to return to his hometown during his years of retirement, where he loved being outside on the water, going on back road ATV rides or hunting in the bush. He loved camping season and listening to live music with his family and friends. He will be fondly remembered by many.

The family would like to thank the many PSWs from Bayshore, CarePartners and Trefry with a special mention to Amy from Bayshore and Nurse Practitioner Natalie for the loving care that they gave to Elwood so that his wishes of remaining at home could be fulfilled.

At Elwood’s request, cremation has taken place and no services will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Matthews Memorial Hospital Association or AlgomaTrad (payable online http://matthewsmha.ca/ - https://www.algomatradonline.ca/ or by cheque).
