Born in Graz, Austria, George Baxter passed away peacefully at the F J Davey Home with his beloved wife Christine nearby.

He loved and was deeply loved by his children Peter (Ethel), Bob (Terri), and Tim (Gaetan), and grandchild Scott (Kristy).

George with Christine by his side endured the many challenges facing a post war immigrant family including the tragic loss of their dear daughter Jayney. Together they defined our family, nurtured us to become the best we could be.

George was many things to us. A comedic partner that provided many a laugh and a yodel or two to round out a jovial event. A man with a zeal for challenge and adventure, be it criss-crossing the continent in their camper, mastering flight, or hunting and fishing; all the while joined by Christine and pet dog by his side. An artist that expressed his love of life and family through drawings and caricatures that aptly captured one’s personality, a family hallmark for every special event. A quiet man. A gentle man. A loving Husband and Father. We have all benefitted from his lessons.

You will be missed, but not forgotten.

In keeping with George’s wishes cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or service.

The family would also like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff and service workers of the F J Davey Home that looked after, cared for, and protected him these past years.

Memorial donations may be made payable to or online to the Sault Ste Marie Humane Society
