Mario Barrette of Hearst, Ontario, peacefully passed away at ARCH Hospice in Sault Ste. Marie on February 7, 2020 with his family by his side. Devoted husband of Elizabeth (Betsi) for 57 years. Dear father of Peggy Barrette of Bracebridge, Lisa Lamont (Mark) of Pembroke, and Marc Barrette (Korri) of Sault Ste Marie. Cherished Grampa of Brittany (Chris), Erica, Jean-Michel, Stephanie, Jonathan, Sophie and Alexandre. Special brother of Carol and Mona and brother-in-law of Anita. Son of the late Armand and late Jeanne Barrette. Mario will be missed by his nephews and nieces.
Mario enjoyed life to the fullest and his passions included hunting, travelling to Mexico and spending time with family and friends at the cottage. Mario was a well-respected and engaged citizen of the community of Hearst and, over the years, was a Municipal Councilor, President of the Hearst Chamber of Commerce, President of the Hearst and Area Economic Development Corporation, active member of the Lions Club, and long-standing member of the Hearst Royal Canadian Legion, Hearst Curling and Golf Clubs. He also contributed to regional initiatives as a board member for the James Bay Frontier Tourism Association and la Chambre Économique de l’Ontario.
A memorial service will be held in Hearst at the Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 2:30pm. The service will be followed by a reception held at the Hearst Royal Canadian Legion. Memorial donations to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation or ARCH Hospice would be appreciated by the family through Northwood Funeral Home. A
