Stan Baldwin

Stanley Baldwin, in his 99th year, passed away peacefully at home in Dundas, Ontario, on Tuesday January 23, 2024. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Dolores of 68 years and will be remembered dearly by his children Ken (Mary-Lynn), Judy, Rob (Karen) and Janet (Paul). Grandad to Jennifer (Brent), David, Stephanie, Jeffrey (Celine), Connor and Sydney. Great Grandad to Reese, Nicholas, Chloe, Sophie and Emma.

Born in Winnipeg and a graduate of the University of Manitoba, Stan moved to Sault Ste Marie, Ontario in 1949 when Abitibi Paper Co. started its Research Division. There he met and married Dolores Bruneau in 1951. He would work for Abitibi (now Resolute Forest Products) in his capacity as Research Chemist until his retirement in 1989. The family moved to Oakville in 1966, when Stan’s job was transferred, where they lived for over 50 years. In his early adult years, Stan was an accomplished athlete, especially in tennis, and enjoyed fishing throughout northern Ontario. After starting a family, he and Dolores acquired a small camp on Goulais Bay, Lake Superior, and this became the centre of his outdoor pursuits. Stan was a devoted member of the Anglican Church of Canada, and an active choir member with a special fondness for traditional church music. Stan was a gardener, handyman, carpenter and sublime solver of practical problems. He always had a project on the go; during the Covid lockdown, he took the opportunity to write his memoirs. When he couldn’t find commercial marmalade to his taste, he learned to make his own, with Dolores’ help, and cultivated many friendships with this as a gift. Stan enjoyed games nights with his family, especially card games like cribbage and “Kings in the Corner”. Stan’s particular affinity was for “home-cooked” food. He was a confirmed traditionalist until his dying day.

A visitation and reception will be held at Kopriva Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road W, Oakville, Ontario on Friday Feb 9, 2024 from 11am - 2 pm.

A joint service of interment for Stan and Dolores will be held at St Luke’s Cathedral, Sault Ste Marie, Ontario at a later date.

At Stan’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to:
