QMJHL roundup: Cataford nets hat trick as Oceanic roll past Islanders 5-1

RIMOUSKI, Que. — Mathieu Cataford scored three goals, Jonathan Fauchon and Eriks Mateiko each had two assists, and the Rimouski Oceanic rolled past the visiting Charlottetown Islanders 5-1 in Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League action on Sunday.

Anthony Pare and Thomas Belzil also scored for the East Division-leading Oceanic (42-13-2-2), who lead 2-1 after the first period and 3-1 heading into the third.

Simon Hughes scored a power-play goal for the Islanders (27-27-4-1), who were outshot 39-15.

The Oceanic went 2-for-5 on the power play, while the Islanders were 1-for-3.

ARMADA 7 VOLTIGEURS 2

DRUMMONDVILLE, Que. — Justin Carbonneau scored four goals and added an assist as the visiting Blainville-Boisbriand Armada zapped the Drummondville Voltigeurs 7-2.

Matt Gosselin scored twice for the West Division-leading Armada (34-18-5-2), while Egor Goriunov netted a single. Vincent Dejardins chipped in with four assists, while Xavier Villeneuve added three helpers and Olivier Lemieux added a pair.

Sam Oliver and Justin Larose scored for the Central Division-leading Voltigeurs (37-17-3-3), who outshot the visitors 49-27, but had trouble beating Armada netminder Felix Hamel, who made 47 saves. Luke Woodworth chipped in with two assists.

BAIE-COMEAU, Que. — The Baie-Comeau Drakkar gave up the game's first goal, then stormed back with five unanswered goals of their own to post a 5-1 win over the visiting Victoriaville Tigres.

Justin Gendron, Louis-Charles Plourde, Alexis Michaud, Evan Courtois and Alexis Bernier scored for the Drakkar (33-23-3-1), who outshot the visitors 47-18. Matyas Melovsky chipped in with two assists.

Olivier Houde scored for the Tigres (16-40-1-3), who went 0-for-4 on the power play.

CHICOUTIMI, Que. — Emile Guite's power-play goal late in the second period stood up as the winner as the Chicoutimi Sagueneens edged the visiting Cape Breton Eagles 3-2.

Alonso Gosselin and Maxim Masse also scored for the Sagueneens (34-16-3-7), who outshot the visitors 36-20. Thomas Desruisseaux chipped in with two assists.

Joseph Henneberry and Jacob Newcombe scored for the Eagles (31-21-4-3). Cam Squires had two assists and netminder Jakub Milota stopped 30 of 33 shots fired on the Eagles' net.
