Toronto shortstop Troy Tulowitzki has ligament damage on his right ankle, and Blue Jays manager John Gibbons figures the veteran might be out of action for a while.
Tulowitzki was injured during Friday night's home game against the Los Angeles Angels. He left in the third inning after spraining his ankle while trying to run out a ground ball at first base.
An MRI on Tulowitzki's sprained ankle revealed the damage. The 32-year-old, who was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Saturday, is set to be further evaluated by a foot/ankle specialist.
But Gibbons didn't sound optimistic after the Blue Jays' 11-10 win over Los Angeles on Sunday.
"You can see the play — he turned it pretty good. The way it's not supposed to bend," he said. "He's going to see a specialist somewhere and he'll have the final say on what's going to happen. But I mean, it doesn't look good."
Tulowitzki is batting .249 with seven homers and 26 runs batted in through 66 games this season. He also spent time on the disabled list with a hamstring injury earlier this year.
