Canada falls to Argentina in the semifinals of the Pan American Cup

GATINEAU, Que. — Canada will be going for back-to-back bronze medals at the Pan American Cup.

Argentina beat the Canadians in straight sets on Saturday in the tournament semifinals. Set scores were 25-23, 25-15 and 25-10.

The Canadian squad also fell to Argentina in group play earlier in the week, losing that match 3-0 as well.

"Canada usually started well, but they lack experience and make many mistakes," Argentina coach Julio Velasco said.

Argentina is unbeaten in four matches and yet to lose a set in the competition. The South American squad will play the winner between Puerto Rico and defending champion Cuba.

Canada, fielding a younger team at this tournament after claiming a bronze at the FIVB World League, will play the loser of the other semi for the bronze on Sunday.

The Canadians finished third at the 2016 Pan Am Cup.
