TORONTO — Blue Jays second baseman Devon Travis has undergone a procedure to clean up cartilage in his right knee.
The 26-year-old from West Palm Beach, Fla., was placed on the 10-day disabled list June 6 with a bone bruise and cartilage damage in the knee.
Toronto manager John Gibbons said he did not know when Travis would be back.
"It's going to be a while," he told reporters before Tuesday's game against Tampa.
Travis had surgery on the same knee last November to remove a small flap of cartilage and missed most of spring training while rehabbing. He has also been sidelined by shoulder issues in the past.
Travis was hitting .259 with five home runs and 24 RBIs in the 50 games he has played this season. Eighteen of his 48 hits were doubles.
The Jays are using a platoon of Darwin Barney and Ryan Goins at second base while Travis is out.
Left-fielder Steve Pearce continues his rehab from a calf strain at triple-A Buffalo. Gibbons expects he'll be back by the weekend.
Pitcher Aaron Sanchez, whose season has been interrupted by a nail and blister issue, was expected to take part in a long toss before throwing from the mound later this week.
Gibbons said Sanchez will probably go to Texas with the team next week so he can continue working with the pitching coach until he gets the green light to start a rehab stint in the minors.
