MONTREAL — The Laurentian Bank of Canada named former Scotiabank executive Rania Llewellyn as its next president and chief executive, making her the first woman to lead a major Canadian bank.
Llewellyn takes over the job on Oct. 30
She joins Laurentian after a 26-year career at Scotiabank, where she was most recently executive vice-president, global business payments.
Llewellyn had also been vice-president, multicultural banking; president and CEO of Roynat Capital; senior vice-president, commercial banking, growth strategy; and senior-vice president, products and services, global transaction banking.
Stephane Therrien has been serving as Laurentian's interim president and chief executive since the end of June when Francois Desjardins retired from the top job.
Desjardins spent 29 years at the bank.
