PRINCE TOWNSHIP – Union Gas supports Prince Township Fire Department with a $1,350 grant for the purchase of personal protection equipment to help ensure the safety of volunteer firefighters.

“At Union Gas, safety governs everything we do, whether we are building a pipeline or installing a gas meter at your home.” said Don Van Daele, utility services manager, Union Gas. “Because of our safety culture, we make it a priority to support our local volunteer firefighters, helping to ensure their safety as they serve the community.”

The Prince Township Fire Department is made up of approximately 25 volunteer fire fighters and equipping them with up to date, modern personal protection is important for their safety and well-being.

Personal protection equipment (PPE) includes bunker gear, boots, gloves, balaclavas and high visibility clothing.

“This generous donation from Union Gas helps to strengthen our collaborative partnership. Training and awareness, related to the safe handling of natural gas, is important for the fire department and for Union Gas,” said Ed Haley, fire chief, Prince Township. “Working together we are better equipped to keep our community informed and safe.”

For over 100 years, Union Gas has been privileged to work in more than 400 Ontario communities.

In addition to providing natural gas delivery services for homes and businesses, Union Gas has contributed to the province through economic investments, available jobs, municipal taxes, energy efficiency programs, volunteer hours, charitable giving and sponsorships.

Last year alone, Union Gas contributed $3.3 million to community and charitable organizations across Ontario, including more than $1 million to United Way.

About Prince Township

Prince Township is located along the eastern or windward side of Lake Superior, at the point where the lake flows into the St. Mary’s River.

The City of Sault Ste. Marie abuts the Township to the east, and Dennis is the abutting Township to the North. Today, the Township is a bedroom community, as most agricultural livelihoods have given way to more profitable jobs in Sault Ste. Marie.

The Township is rural in nature, and geared towards small scale growth, with special regard for maintaining the existing rural character.

Even though Prince Township is a small rural community, with a population of only 1031, we are still able to provide our residents with fire protection because of our dedicated volunteer fire fighters.
