Strive Young Professionals Group is accepting executive nominations and a new chair for their board.

Nominees are welcome from across Algoma, and many different sectors, and they must be members in good standing.

Strive was founded to fill a representation gap for those between 19 and 40 years of age.

The Strive press release, with details on how to submit a nomination, is included below.

Declare your candidacy to be elected to the Strive Executive.

Strive YPG works to assist young professionals (19-40) in reaching higher potential through community development, networking events, training opportunities, and recognizing achievements for the purpose of attraction and retention in the community. As the voice of young professionals, Strive works with government officials and community stakeholders to represent important issues to the young workforce.

Strive encourages nominees from across Algoma from different sectors (including Health Care, Trades, Education, Finance, Communications, Public Service, Science & Environmental Studies, Community & Social Services, and more) and with diverse backgrounds.

We are looking for a group of young professionals who are passionate about Sault Ste. Marie, developing our workforce, advocating on behalf of other young professionals, and creating an environment to recognize and celebrate other high achievers. Board experience is not required. Positions will be held for 2-year terms.

In addition to executive committee positions, Strive YPG is also seeking a new chair. "After three years as the chair of Strive, it is time to bring in a new leader to the organization" says Derek Jackson, current chair of Strive YPG. "Member organizations like Strive YPG thrive off of new ideas from diverse and energetic volunteers. Much of my time as chair was focused on supporting our own organization and our members through the COVID-19 pandemic and post-pandemic recovery. Strive shared a leadership role in the Algoma Vaccination Support Council that has just recently wrapped up, but remains ready to mobilize if needed. As this chapter closes, it is a fitting time to seek a new leader to support the transition of Strive YPG. We are in a natural progression back to in-person events that support networking, community and professional recognition, and professional and economic development. It is also a great time to work with other organizations and all levels of government to support the issues most important to Young Professionals in our community such as attracting a diverse workforce to Sault Ste. Marie and promoting increased volunteerism and investment in the arts and culture of our community" says Jackson.

"Many members of the current executive committee will hold their positions next year, and I myself will move into the past-chair position offering support to the new chair and executive committee. Strive YPG has forged many partnerships through our community to strengthen our mission in supporting YPs. I look forward to continuing my work with many of those organizations, including the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce as we all work hard to create a prosperous, diverse and empowered community" says Jackson.
