Sault Ste. Marie’s Steel City Ignite Volleyball Club competed in the Ontario Volleyball Association Beach Tour on July 10 in Pickering, Ont. Representing the 13U Premier Division were Roxie Wilding and Donna Holzwarth. The July competition was held at Chestnut Hills Recreation Complex in Pickering. Steel City Ignite was the only Northern team in the competition, playing teams from Southern Ontario.

Wilding and Holzwarth went undefeated in the round-robin competition before heading into the finals. Wilding and Holzwarth played three close sets, earning the silver medal in the final game. Wilding & Holzwarth’s silver medal at the tournament was Steel City’s Ignite’s second medal in the OVA’s Beach Tour in their first year of competition.

“There is so much more to consider with beach volleyball. Our girls had to play smart, combining skills and knowledge of the game while adapting to the outdoor elements. They couldn’t have done it better! We are very proud of Roxie and Donna! They worked so well together and learned a lot, but most importantly, they had fun," said Kara Paat, Steel City Ignite’s coach Kara Paat.
