Women's hockey season wraps up

Investors Group, Source for Sports and Lafarge have all ended their Women's Hockey League seasons season with wins. Investors Group captured the playoff championship with a 4-2 victory over Crawford's Canines.

Investors Group captured the playoff championship with a 4-2 victory over Crawford's Canines. Andrea Scornaienchi notched a pair of goals, while Verna Sewell and Cassidy Boudreau each scored once. Boudreau also had one assist along with Michelle Dillenbeck and Patti Lutz. Scoring for the Canines were Joanne Jones and Lisa Venier. Margie Skulech and Laurie Laudadio pitched in with one assist each.

Following the game Colleen McLean, a player with Lafarge, presented Investors Group with the newly unveiled Keith McWatters Memorial Cup. The playoff championship trophy is named in honour of Colleen's father, an avid hockey enthusiast, who passed away last January. Colleen and the McWatters family graciously donated the trophy. The Keith McWatters Memorial Cup will be presented annually.

Regular season champions, Source for Sports, finished a respectable third in their playoff run with a 6-3 win over Algoma Insurance. Jenny Sayers led the way with two goals and an assist. Amanda Fata, Natalie King, and Barb Willoughby each scored once. Fata, Heidi Frech and Amber Lahti added one assist each, while pick up player, Cassidy Boudreau, scored once and had two assists.

Mona Jones had two goals for Algoma and Natalie Barry, one. Joanne Pine and Andrea Moraca each had one assist.

Lafarge won the "Cellar Stars" series to finish fifth in the playoffs with a convincing 6-1 win over Play It Again Sports. Elaine Angelic scored twice and added one assist, while Doreen Shaw had a goal and an assist. Sue Chiblow and Trish Evans pitched in with a goal each and Colleen McLean had one assist. Pick up player, Mona Jones, scored once and had two assists.

Awards were handed out following the games at Joey Calzone's. Winner of the League's Oldest Player Award (and reimbursement of registration fees) was "rookie" Betty Buck (age withheld from the media). Betty sent out congratulations to runner-up, Margie Skulech and says she's " already looking forward to next year."

Winner of the Sharon Abrams Award for Commitment, Courage and Clutziness was Toni Pykkonen of Lafarge. Toni received a new hockey bag compliments of Canadian Tire.
