*** WEEK SEVEN REPORT: By Lorie Springall

It was a week of 'firsts' and hattricks as three players scored their first goals in the WHL, players picked up their first point, one goalie earned her first shut out of the season (which have been few and far between this year), another goalie became the first to earn an assist, and four players picked up hattricks, three of which were firsts, including two by WHL rookies.

Lafarge had two impressive wins this week with a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over Country Way and a 3-0 shut out win against Algoma Insurance.

In Sunday's match up, Lafarge trailed Country Way 4-2 heading into the third period, but three unanswered goals from Gerri Miller (a natural hat trick and her first in the WHL) sealed the deal for the "Green Machine". Patti Lutz had Lafarge's other goals. Robin Bourck had three assists and Marg VanLendegham had one assist.

Lisa O'Connor picked up her first point, assisting on Miller's tying goal. Rookie Linda Benedek had a huge game of her own with four points, scoring her first career goal and then adding two more for her first hattrick. Benedek also had an assist on Country Way's fourth goal by Sherry Boston. Other assists went to Christine Trivers (her first 2 of the season), Donna Smith and Francine (Flash) Floreani.

Lafarge's Nancy Dewling picked up her first shut out of the season in their 3-0 win over Algoma Insurance. Once again Bourck, Miller and Lutz handled the scoring as Bourck scored twice and added an assist. Miller had one goal and Lutz had one assist.

In other games, Source for Sports defeated Skip's Kweok 5-3. Stephanie Bean had four points scoring her first hattrick and adding one assist. Jenny Sayers and Debbie Sacco each scored once while Rhonda Crozier had two assists. Single assists went to Heather Coutu and Lori Ballstadt.

Debbie (Digger) Desgagne had two goals and an assist for Skip's. Pam Booth had one goal and two assists while Christine Robertson earned two assists.

White Oak Paint celebrated a 5-2 win against Crawford's Canines. Lori (Big Bird) Bonnell led the way with her second hattrick of the year while Lisa Rowlinson scored once and set up another. Julie Hodkinson also scored once. Laurie Laudadio pitched in with two assists and Anita (Kit Kat) Kovac had one assist.

Rookie Jaime Adair scored for Crawford's, her first of the season, with help from Chrissy Wade and Sarah Fischer. Crawford's other goal was awarded at the start of the game as a result of White Oak Paint failing to supply a timekeeper.

Suzanne Dunn's goal with 2:46 remaining in the game gave Palmer Paving a 2-1 win over Investors Group. Cathy Toni put Palmer up 1-0 in the second period with her first goal of the season.

Trish Evans replied for Investors with help from Lisa Case early in the third frame to even things up. With time running out and Palmer heading toward yet another tie (they lead the league with 4), Dunn's goal was a huge boost for the 'Paving Crew'. Teammates Denise (Deeter) Goldade and Leah-Anne Pine each had one assist in the win.

Skip's Kweok rebounded from Sunday's loss and skated to a 5-1 win over Country Way. Mona Jones scored twice and had one assist while Natalie Barry had a goal and an assist. Rose Jones and Pam Booth each scored once with single assists going to (Digger) Desgagne, Amanda (Sniper) Fata, Chris Elliott, and "pick up goalie", Laurie Terris.

Kristy Kernaghen scored for Country Way with Christine Trivers getting the lone assist.

A make up game between Lafarge and Crawford's Canines will be played this Wednesday, Feb 16th at 9:00pm at McMeeken. The regular schedule continues this Sunday at McMeeken at 4pm and 5pm. Monday night games in Echo Bay are ready to roll at 6:30pm.
