Six weeks of action are complete in Sault Ste. Marie's Women's Hockey League.

Source for Sports continues to remain the lone unbeaten team with record of five wins and three ties after a victory last weekend to pad their lead on top of the standings to three points.

Once again unseasonably warm temperatures forced the league to reschedule its slate of Monday night games. Three of the four games were made up; however the Lafarge—Crawford's Canines match up will have to be played at a later date.

On Sunday, Source for Sports won 6-4 over Lafarge scoring 4 unanswered goals in the third period. Lafarge led 3-1 and 4-2 during the game but couldn't stop a third period barrage by the Source including Debbie Sacco's first career goal with 45 seconds remaining.

Other goal scorers were Lisa Venier (2), Lori Ballstadt, Jenny Sayers, and Stephanie Bean each with a goal and an assist and Karen Gartshore and Jody Rebek with one assist each.

Robin Bourck and Gerri Miller both had a three point game for Lafarge. Miller scored twice and set up another, while Bourck had a goal and two assists. Lafarge's Michelle Dillenbeck opened the scoring and rookie Dawn Secord earned an assist in her first game.

Palmer Paving came oh so close to a 1-0 shut out win against Algoma Insurance but gave up the tying goal with just 27 seconds remaining in the game.

With the face off deep in Palmer's end, Algoma pulled the goalie in favour of an extra attacker. The strategy paid off as centre Debbie Beauchamp won the draw cleanly to teammate Theresa Glover in the slot. Glover fired a low shot which deflected off a Palmer defender and past goalie Melissa Holder.

Scoring for Palmer midway through the first period was Leah-Anne Pine. "Pick up player" Donna May Sayers-Lariviere had the only assist.

In another exciting finish, Country Way pulled the goalie against Investors Group in an effort to even things at 2 but ended up watching helplessly as Investors' Ellen (MacDash) MacDougall slid the puck into the empty net for a 3-1 win.

Andrea Moraca's first goal of the season proved to be the winner while Carrie Mancuso was credited with Investors' first goal, deflecting a shot from teammate Doreen Shaw. Leslie Bois and Debbie (Gunner) Gallagher each had one assist in the win. Sue Chiblow had the lone goal for Country Way, unassisted.

In Bruce Mines Monday night, Skip's Kweok's strong offence continued to be their best defence as they outscored Palmer Paving 6-1. They have now surrendered only four goals in their last four games.

Amanda (Sniper) Fata scored twice along with Debbie (Digger) Desgagne who also added one assist. Pam Booth had one goal and three assists while Christine Robertson scored once and had one assist. Mona Jones and Tanya Thompson pitched in with two assists each.

Palmer Paving's Suzanne Dunn had the lone goal with assists going to Cathy Toni and Denise Goldade.

Algoma Insurance's Sherri Collins earned her first shut out of the season and Jennifer Blahey scored her first hattrick on route to a 5-0 win over White Oak Paint.

Debbie Beauchamp and Kristen Nelson also scored. "Pick up player" Ellen Ford set up three goals while Theresa Glover and Lori Swan had two assists each. Single assists went to Sharon Templeton and Penny Glover.

White Oak Paint put forth a gritty performance despite the absence of their 'experienced' players. Tanya Dowding, Barb Willoughby and Lori Bonnell were all out of the line up. With Algoma also missing a few players, Andrea Jarzombek filled in on defence with a strong game.

Games continue this Sunday at McMeeken with Lafarge playing Country Way at 4pm and Skip's Kweok taking on Source for Sports at 5pm.

With temperatures cooling off in the next week, games on Monday night in Echo Bay are expected to go as scheduled. White Oak Paint and Crawford's Canines will battle it out at 6:30pm. Palmer Paving and Investors Group face off at 7:30pm. Algoma Insurance and Lafarge meet at 8:30pm and Country Way will meet Skip's Kweok at 9:30pm.
