Skip’s Kweok stands alone in first place with a perfect 5-0 record after handing Sports Gold their first loss of the season.

Meanwhile, a pair of wins by BDO Dunwoody catapulted them from seventh place into third in league standings with Source for Sports close behind in fourth spot.

Week 4 action saw three goalies earn shut outs – Cat Schryer and newbee, Amanda Luther, picked up their first of the season while Teri Bonnell recorded her second of the year.

*** GAME RESULTS:

Lafarge – 5 Ontario Concrete – 2

Lafarge took advantage of a depleted Ontario Concrete roster and skated to a 5-2 win on Saturday at Rankin arena. Both teams were reinforced with pick up players. Ontario Concrete’s Nancy Pedatella had one assist while pick ups Brianne Greco and Jean Feagan scored and Kathy Pinkse had an assist. Scoring for Lafarge were Patti Storozuk with two goals and one assist, Alicia Pollock with one goal and one assist and Sharon Templeton with an assist. Pick up players Andrea Jarzombek and Sue Sherrard scored one each while Sherrard and Lori Swan added one assist. Nancy Dewling had the win in goal for Lafarge.

Sports Gold – 3 Algoma Insurance – 0

Sports Gold blanked Algoma Insurance 3-0 with five separate players contributing in the scoring. Lori Swan, Katie Healy and Andrea Jarzombek each had a goal while Tracey Maitland and Donna Smith picked up one assist. Teri Bonnell had the shut out. The win put Sports Gold into a tie for first place with Skip’s Kweok heading into Sunday’s showdown.

Source for Sports – 3 Crawford’s Canines – 3

Robyn Bourck’s hattrick kept Crawford’s Canines even with Source for Sports in a 3-3 tie Saturday night at McMeeken. All three of Bourck’s goals were unassisted. Answering for The Source were rookie Kellie Carter, newbee Chantal Anderson and pick up player, Lisa Case. Lisa Turco had two assists with singles going to Carter, Case, Elaine Derosario and Lisa Venier. Leslie Bois substituted in goal for the Canines’ regular netminder, Lois Pine. Pine suffered a knee injury in a game Nov 27th and will likely miss the rest of the season.

BDO Dunwoody – 3 Country Way – 1

BDO’s Pam Booth led the way in a 3-1 win, scoring twice and adding one assist. Jen Blahey scored the other goal and had one assist while Amber Lahti picked up a single assist. Francine “Flash” Floreani scored Country Way’s lone goal with the only assist going to Sherry Boston. Cat Schryer had the win in goal for BDO.

B&J Trucking – 5 Lafarge – 3

Kyla Sewell and Rose Jones were on fire for B&J Trucking as they each picked up three points on route to a 5-3 win over Lafarge. Sewell scored twice and had one assist while Jones scored once and had two assists. Rookie, Caroline Walker, and veteran Joanne Pine had the other B&J goals. Pine also had one assist along with Christine Robertson and Natalie Barry. Rosalee Boissoneau pitched in with two assists. Lafarge opened the scoring just a minute into the game on a goal by Patti Storozuk but then fell behind 5-1 by the end of the second frame. Goals by Sharon Templeton and pick up player Shannon McLeod in the third period gave Lafarge a bit of a lift, but B&J’s solid penalty killing gave them the edge in momentum as they held on to win. Templeton and Alicia Pollock each had one assist for Lafarge. B&J’s Joy Agawa picked up the win in goal.

Source for Sports – 5 White Oak Paint – 0

Rookie goalie, Amanda Luther, earned her first career shut out as Source for Sports defeated White Oak Paint 5-0. Scoring for The Source were Chantal Anderson (2), Kim Chapman (a highlight coast-to-coast goal), Jenny Sayers and Kellie Carter. Chapman and Sayers also picked up one assist each along with Lyn Mazzonello, Lisa Venier and Carrie Mancuso.

Country Way – 3 Crawford’s Canines – 1

Country Way skated to their first win of the season on the strength of two first period goals by Trish Evans and some smart netminding by Sherri Collins. Linda Benedek also scored with single helpers from Patti Lutz and Michelle Dillenbeck. Crawford’s held a brief 1-0 lead midway through the first period on a goal by Robyn Bourck. Vicky Irving and Cathy Toni assisted on the play. However, it was all Country Way from then on.

BDO Dunwoody – 4 Algoma Insurance – 0

BDO handed Algoma Insurance their second shut out loss of the weekend with a 4-0 win on Sunday. Wendy Basawa led the way scoring twice and setting up Jen Blahey and Pam Booth for the other two goals. The win was huge for the Dunwoody gang as it moved them into third place just ahead of Source for Sports and with a game in hand.

*** NEXT WEEK:

The league is happy to report that a replacement for Crawford’s Canines goalie, Lois Pine, has been found. Newbee, Wanda Grise, will suit up for the Canines this Sunday at McMeeken as they take on BDO Dunwoody at 8pm. Grise will replace Pine for the remainder of the season.

Other games this Sunday at McMeeken will see Ontario Concrete play B&J Trucking (4pm); Algoma Insurance will face Skip’s Kweok (5pm); Source for Sports and Sports Gold play at 6pm and Lafarge will take on White Oak Paint at 7pm.
