Wolves rally past Greyhounds

The Sudbury Wolves overcame a 2-0 deficit to skate past the Soo Greyhounds on Friday night.

The New Year's Eve contest in the Nickel City was the first game of a home-and-home series between the two teams.

The Greyhounds grabbed a 1-0 lead on their first shot on goal as Andrew Desjardins converted a turnover at 3:53 of the first period.

Kyle Wharton then put the Hounds up 2-0 early in the second period with his first goal with the team since being acquired from the Ottawa 67's on Tuesday in exchange for David Jarram. Desjardins also picked up an assist on the goal.

Benoit Pouliot then started the Wolves rally with a goal at 6:53 of the second frame.

Sudbury completed the comeback with a pair of quick goals to start the third period as Rafal Martynowski on the power play and Nick Foligno beat Hounds netminder Kyle Gajewski.

The loss drops the Greyhounds back below the .500 mark at 16-17-5-1. The locals hold a one point lead in the Ontario Hockey League's west division over the Plymouth Whalers, who hold three games in hand.

The Wolves and Greyhounds will complete the home-and-home series on Sunday at Memorial Gardens beginning at 7 p.m.
