Wolverines, Knights capture high school basketball titles

White Pines captured the senior title while St. Mary's won in junior

On Friday night, the city champs were crowned in both junior and senior high school basketball.

In Friday’s senior final, Chase Peplow had 14 points as White Pines beat Korah 62-37 to win the city title.

"The boys have earned it. They worked hard. We've been building for this for the last three years, we've been trying to get ready to win a senior championship here at White Pines,” said White Pines coach Hue Higham. “We won a NOSSA championship last year in junior, so I'm really excited for the boys. They executed, they came to play. They came out of the gates hard like we wanted to, and I'm just proud of them. It was all on them."

In the junior final, Jacob Brown had 22 points as the St. Mary’s Knights beat the White Pines Wolverines 57-47.

Nick Carter added 20 points for the Knights.

“It was just a great game,” St. Mary’s coach Richard Majic said, “The boys came up with another big performance. They worked hard all year and proved it again tonight that they’re the best team in this city.”

Michael Ferlaino led White Pines with 24 points.
