The White Pines Wolverines rebounded from a slow start to cruise past the Korah Colts on Saturday afternoon.

The High School Football League senior division contest at Rocky DiPietro Field saw the two teams go to the half tied 13-13 but six second half touchdowns propelled the Wolverines to a 55-19 victory.

The win lifts the Wolverines into a second place tie with the St. Basil Saints at 2-1 while the Colts fall to 0-3.

The Colts started the game well and controlled the majority of the opening half as Ben Ginter scored on runs of 17 and two yards to give Korah a 13-0 lead. But the Wolverines crept back into a tie as Jon Widgett ran for a 65 yard major and Jake Doan added another on a 60 yard catch and run on the final play of the first half.

In the second half, Widgett scored two more touchdowns on runs of 12 and seven yards, Tommy Swystun ran for five and 71 yard scores, Tom Hicks caught a 13 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Cory Wensley and Doan scored his second touchdown on a 31 yard pass play.

Mike Burmaster added another Korah score on a 72 yard run. Matt Santos kicked seven converts for White Pines and Daniel Ferris one for the Colts.

Widgett finished with 226 yards rushing on 19 carries while Swystun added 158 yards on 16 carries. Wensley threw for another 163 yards on eight of 13 attempts. Doan caught three passes for 101 yards.

Defensively for the Wolverines, Darcy Rumble and Matt Connors led with 7.5 tackles each while Kellan Paat and Matt Ritchie made 4.5 each. Anthony Silvano grabbed an interception while Tyler Kostiuk and Devon Boston recovered fumbles.

For the Colts, Ginter finished with 195 yards on 24 carries while Burmaster added another 131 yards on 17 carries. Jeff McAllister led the defense with seven tackles while Luke Critchley made 6.5 and Ferris 4.5. Joe Desjardins grabbed an interception and Jordan Ramsay recovered a fumble.

*** JUNIOR DIVISION:

In junior action on Saturday morning, Korah blanked White Pines 13-0. Greg Gagnon scored two touchdowns while Mitchell Dionisi kicked a convert.
