George Wilson made his return to the winner's circle as the popular late model driver won his second feature race in four weeks on Monday night.
The special Monday race card at Laird International Raceway was held as a make-up for last Thursday's rain out although rain once again spoiled the finish of the program.
Although a points title may be out of reach, Wilson, who won the super stock championship last season, continues to serve notice that he is one the late model division's premiere drivers. If not for missing the opening week with the car not ready to race and a one-week suspension earlier this month for an altercation in the pits, Wilson may very well be in the thick of a points championship.
Points leader Robert Hiiemaa continued his consistent driving with a victory in the second heat, a third place finish in the feature and a chequered flag in the fast car dash. Michael Gold won the first heat and finished second in the feature.
Mike Corbett won both factory stocks heats as a scary crash and rain dampened the division's races.
The second heat was called after five laps as Chuck Fawcett was sent flying sideways into the front guardrail, nearly flipping the car. Fawcett emerged from the crash although the car suffered extensive damage.
The factory stocks were scheduled to run a twin 20-lap feature but rain halted racing for the night five laps into the first feature race. The remaining 15 laps and the other 20-lap feature will be made up on Thursday night.
Barry Glenn has returned from back problems to where he left off by running a clean sweep of the pure stock division with wins in both heat races and the feature. Jamie Coccimiglio won the feature and second heat in the stock four division while Scott Syrette won the first heat.
Racing continues Thursday with qualifying at 6 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. Only three race dates remain in the season.
