Microage SFHA Bantam BB Wildcats Compete in Brantford Walter Gretzky Tournament

The Microage SFHA Bantam BB Wildcats have returned from Brantford where they played in the Annual Walter Gretzky Tournament played March 4,5, and 6.

Unfortunately they did not make it past the preliminary rounds in this tournament after winning a gold medal the previous week in the Thessalon Female hockey tournament. They finished the preliminary rounds with a record of 2 losses and 1 tie. In their first game, the Sarnia Bluewater Hawks overpowered them with a 2-1 win. The wildcats suffered through 12 minutes in the penalty box with a single goal scored by Andrea Brunetta assisted by Morgan Tersigni in the first period.

Game 2 against the Hamilton Hawks didn't go much better with another 2-1 loss for Microage. The lone goal in this game was scored by Laura Duguay with assists going to Brianne Veale and Sarah McCulloch. This was a tough loss for Microage with Hamilton unable to beat the Wildcats in all previous tournaments this year.

Even with Walter Gretzky and Becky Kellar from the Canadian Olympic Team in the Wildcats dressing room giving motivational speeches the Wildcats could not pull off a win in the third and final game for the Cats.

Mississauga managed to tie the third game against the Wildcats 1-1 with the penalty box overflowing by both teams. The Wildcats received 17 minutes and a game misconduct for their efforts to remain alive in the tournament with hopes to return with at least 1 win. Kayla Leishman scored the lone unassisted goal for the Wildcats.

The next action for the Wildcats will be the Provincials held in Brampton on April 15,16, and 17.
