The Plymouth Whalers strolled into Memorial Gardens Sunday night looking to move into first place in the Ontario Hockey League West Division and they got just what they were after.

The Whalers walked out of the Gardens with a 3-0 win over the Hounds thanks to their top line of Ryan Ramsay-Chad Larose-Karl Stewart, who combined for seven points on the night.

The first period was a defensive frame with the Whalers holding an edge in the shot department, 9-5.

Late in the period the, Whalers took a 1-0 lead. On a power play, Ryan Ramsay scored goal number 10 on the season on a setup by Larose and Sooite Cole Jarrett.

Midway through the second period, the Whalers snared a 2-0 lead on Ramsay's second goal of the night, set up again by Larose and Jarrett. Then, late in the period, Karl Stewart gave the Whalers a three-goal cushion, beating Hound netminder Adam Munro. Ramsay and Larose both picked up assists for their third points of the evening.

Whaler goalie Paul Drew stopped 21 shots for the shutout. Munro faced only 23 shots in the Hound net.

Next action for the Greyhounds is Thursday night when they begin a three-game road trip with a stop in London to face the Knights. The game will be televised live on Sportsnet Ontario.
