Unbeaten run continues for Colts in senior high school football

Week four will see a battle of the top teams in senior football as Korah takes on St. Mary's

The Korah Colts senior high school football team remains unbeaten through three weeks of play.

A couple of big runs for touchdowns early on helps the Colts to a 43-16 win over the Superior Heights Steelhawks in week three play at Superior Heights on Friday night.

Korah got on the board first as Nathan Guizzetti ran the ball in from 38 yards out and got a convert from A.J. Coccimiglio to make it 7-0 just under two minutes into the game.

After Superior Heights conceded a safety, the Colts extended the lead further with just over four minutes to go in the opening quarter as Guizzetti scored on a 108-yard run and Coccimiglio hit the convert to make it 16-0.

Payton Melchiorre added to the Korah lead in the final minute of the opening quarter on a five-yard touchdown run. The convert on the play by Coccimiglio made it 23-0 Colts.

Midway through the second quarter, Korah conceded a safety to make the score 23-2.

Korah quarterback Zayn Murdoch hit Cam Williamson for a 12-yard touchdown. With the convert from Coccimiglio, the Colts carried a 30-2 lead into the second half.

Murdoch then hit Mitchell Kommusaar on a 58-yard pass in the third quarter as the Colt further extended the lead. The convert from Coccimiglio on the play made the score 37-2 Korah.

Late in the quarter, Superior Heights got an eight-yard touchdown run from Ben Trevisanut and convert Daxyn Pringle to make the score 37-9 Korah.

The Steelhawks then added another major thanks to a 10-yard touchdown run from Drayden Brock. With the convert from Pringle, the score was 37-16.

Melchiorre ran the ball five times in the win for 105 yards while Guizzetti had 146 yards rushing on a pair of carries.

Defensively, Riley Carter had four tackles for Korah. Kommusaar had 3.5 tackles for Korah while Hunter Dickinson added 3.5 as well.

Offensively for the Steelhawks, Trevisanut had 44 yards rushing on nine carries while Tye Rushon chipped in with 41 on 10 carries.

Quarterback Dylan Wooton completed 12 of 20 pass attempts for 96 yards for Superior Heights.

Jayvyn Battle had three tackles defensively.

Korah moves to 3-0 with the win while Superior Heights is 1-2.

In the junior game, Korah cruised to a 47-15 win over Superior Heights.

Korah opened the scoring 1:39 into the game s Gevin Grisdale caught a pass from quarterback Brett Koski for an 81-yard touchdown. The convert by Ryder Strachen made it 7-0 Colts.

With just under four minutes to go in the opening quarter, Koski hit Lukis Joy-Stoycheff for a nine-yard touchdown pass. With the convert by Strachen, the Colts took a 14-0 lead into the second quarter.

Just under five minutes into the second quarter, Koski hit Grisdale for a 44-yard touchdown to make it 20-0.

On their next possession, the Steelhawks got a 92-yard touchdown catch by Ben George on a pass from Nik Joseph to cut the score to 20-6.

Grisdale got his third touchdown of the game with just over two minutes to go in the half as he caught a 13-yard pass from Koski. Strachen hit the convert to make the score 27-6.

An interception by Strachen returned 34 yards for a touchdown and the subsequent convert on his own major made the score 34-6.

A 10-yard touchdown run by Jairren Kaldma made the score 40-6 Korah heading into the half.

Korah extended the lead further midway through the third quarter as Amedeo Felice ran the ball in from a yard out and Strachen hit the convert to make the score 47-6.

A safety at the end of the third quarter for Superior Heights made it a 47-8 game through three quarters.

In the fourth quarter, Joseph hit Evan Missere for a 29-yard touchdown. Missere also kicked the extra point on the play.

In addition to his touchdown catch, Joy-Stoycheff ran the ball nine times for 99 yards.

On the defensive side, Robin Price had 3.5 tackles while Michael Marshall and Gabe Phillips had three tackles each.

George finished the day completing 12 of 17 passes for 202 yards for the Steelhawks.

George caught three passes for 97 yards while Missere caught three passes for 47 yards.

Defensively for Superior Heights, Colton Devoe had eight tackles.

Korah remains unbeaten at the junior level with a 3-0 record. The Steelhawks are 1-2.
