The Soo Thunderbirds rallied to pick up a win over the Soo Eagles on Saturday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action.
After falling behind by a pair of goals, the Thunderbirds scored three unanswered goals to beat the Eagles 3-2 at Pullar Stadium int he Michigan Sault.
Kenny Belanger Jr., opened the scoring for the Eagles 50 seconds into the game as he forced a turnover and beat Thunderbirds starter Kolton Bourret.
Cooper Fredericks made it a 2-0 game as the newly-acquired Eagle notched his first NOJHL tally by beating Bourret blocker side
The Thunderbirds got one back on a power play late in the first as Callum McAuley knocked in a backhand on a rebound of a pad save by the Eagles’ Anthony Zolezzi at 17:28.
With a two-man advantage to begin the second period, the Thunderbirds tied the game as they worked the play around nicely before Quinn Myles snapped in his first NOJHL goal, which was converted from the left faceoff circle.
The visitors were quick to take the lead in the third as McAuley scored his second of the contest in the opening minute of the third period to cap off the scoring.
With the win, the Thunderbirds improve to 19-9-2-1 while the Eagles fall to 20-12-0-1.
