Thunderbirds fall to Voodoos

A three-goal second period helped the Powassan Voodoos to a win over the Soo Thunderbirds

Facing the hottest team in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League, the Soo Thunderbirds dropped a 4-1 decision to the Powassan Voodoos on Friday night.

The Voodoos opened the scoring 2:11 into the contest and scored three times in the second period en route to the win.

The team has now won 21 consecutive games.

Dylan Gajewski had a goal and an assist for the Voodoos.

Tomas Yachmenev and Eric Mondoux also scored.

Powassan goaltender Owen Say stopped 28 shots.

Nick Smith had the lone goal for the Thunderbirds, scoring on the power play with 5:29 to go in the game.

Dakota Meyer stopped 37 shots for the Thunderbirds.

The Thunderbirds fall to 14-11-1-2 with the loss while Powassan is 23-1-0-0.

The Thunderbirds return to action on Saturday night at home against the Hearst Lumberjacks. Puck drop at the John Rhodes Community Centre.
