Thunderbirds explode offensively against Wildcats

A weekend road trip opened for the Soo Thunderbirds on Saturday night and it began on a high-scoring note.

Nine players had multi-point games as the Thunderbirds skated to a 12-3 Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League win over the Elliot Lake Wildcats Saturday night.

Rylan Clemons led the way with a goal and four assists in the victory.

Cooper Smyl and Dylan Parsons had two goals and two assists each while Warner Young also had four points with a goal and three assists.

Jacob Kovacs scored twice and assisted on another goal.

Colton Hayes also had three points with a goal and two assists.

Camden Findlay and Nolan Ford had a goal and an assist each.

Brock Santa Maria also scored for the Thunderbirds.

Will Josephson assisted on two goals for the Sault.

Thunderbirds goaltender Dakota Meyer stopped 36 shots.

Nick Jameus, Jonathan Giancotti, and Connor Taylor scored for Elliot Lake.

Robert Maulucci assisted on two Elliot Lake goals.

Jonathan Lemaire got the start in goal for Elliot Lake but was pulled after giving up four goals on nine shots. Theodore Heropoulas entered the game and stopped 42 of 50 shots the rest of the way.

The Thunderbird will take a 28-15-2-3 record into action on Sunday against the Rayside-Balfour Canadians in Chelmsford.

Elliot Lake falls to 5-40-3-0.
