Thunderbirds drop second consecutive game to Hearst

The Thunderbirds will wrap up their weekend in Cochrane on Saturday night

A three-game road Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League road trip continued for the Soo Thunderbirds on Friday night and the Hearst Lumberjacks weren’t exactly hospitable hosts.

Just 24 hours after picking up a 6-2 win over the Thunderbirds on Thursday, the Lumberjacks swept the two-game set between the two clubs with a 7-3 win on Friday night at Claude Larose Arena.

Riley Klugerman, Zachary Demers, and Tyler Patterson had three points each for the Lumberjacks in the victory.

Klugerman and Demers had two goals and an assist each while Patterson had a goal and two helpers for Hearst.

Mason Bazaluk also had a multi-point night for Hearst with a goal and an assist.

Brandan Tronchin had the other goal for the Lumberjacks.

Adam Shillinglaw had a pair of assists as well in the win.

Hearst goaltender Matteo Gennaro stopped 31 shots.

Kolton Bourret got the start in goal for the Thunderbirds, stopping 17 of 22 shots before being pulled after 40 minutes. Zachary Reddy stopped 15 of the 17 shots he faced in the third period.

Kolby Fellinger, Ethan Raduy, and Dharan Cap completed the scoring for the Thunderbirds.

Youssef Chaouachi assisted on two goals for the Sault.

The Thunderbirds will take a 2-4-0-0 record into Saturday’s road trip finale in Cochrane against the Crunch.

With the win, Hearst improves to 4-2-0-0.
