Thunder, Bantam Hounds win night caps

The Soo Thunder and Soo Bantam Greyhounds each skated away with a win in their second games of the day on Friday at the 24th Annual Steel City International Hockey Tournament.

The Thunder improved their record to 3-0 in the Bantam AAA Minor division with a 6-4 win over the St. Catherines Sabres on Friday night at the Pee Wee Arena.

Richard MacLennan scored twice to lead the Thunder while singles went to Matthew Amadio, Taylor Zalewski, Brett Thompson and Mickey Sartoretto.

Following the Thunder win, the Greyhounds rolled past Marathon's North Shore Mercs for the second time this tournament with a 10-0 win to sit at 3-0 in the Bantam AAA Major division.

Dean Howard paced the Greyhounds attack with four goals including a natural trick. Howard added three assists for a seven point night.

Luke O'Brien added two goals and a pair of assists while Kyle Jean also netted a pair. Brett Perlini and Anthony Colizza scored once and added an assist each while Alex Cruise recorded three helpers and Mike Rivard two.

Greg McAllister recorded his second shutout of the tournament.

The Bantam Hounds are back in action with a single game on Saturday against Detroit's Motor City Jr. Chiefs at 4:30 p.m. at Memorial Gardens.

The Soo Thunder also have a single game on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the John Rhodes Community Centre.
