Lake Superior figure skaters bring home three medals from the 2016 Skate Ontario Championships
Lake Superior Figure Skating Club skaters Danielle McPhee and Cameron Smith excelled this weekend at the 2016 Skate Ontario Championships held in Sudbury, ON.
“Danielle McPhee and Cameron Smith each qualified for two separate events after the Northern Ontario Festival of Stars competition in February. Their next goal was to place top three in the province in the Triathlon and Free Skate events which would be a huge accomplishment,” said their head coach Kerry Bain.
Danielle McPhee placed 4th in the Senior Silver Ladies Free Skate event.
Danielle also competed in the Silver Ladies Triathlon event coming in first place.
Congratulations to Danielle for becoming the Silver Ladies Triathlon Provincial Champion!
Cameron Smith placed third in the Junior Silver Ladies Free Skate event.
Cameron was sitting in sixth place after the first two disciplines in the Bronze Triathlon and after a fantastic skate to win the Free Skate event, ended with a second-place finish overall!
Congratulations to Cameron for bringing home two Provincial Medals, a silver and bronze!
The LSFSC coaching team and Board of Directors is very proud of all nine skaters who competed this weekend: Danielle McPhee, Cameron Smith, Emilie Vezina, Lilia-Anne Pelletier, Laura Baek, Hanna Martin, Yvonne Barnes, Cassie Grenier, and Emma Carlucci.
Note: Caitlin Novello also qualified but could not attend.
“It was a great learning experience for our skaters, including some who were competing at a Provincial level for the first time. All skaters had a tremendous season and worked very hard to qualify for provincials, we are proud of all of them,” said their head coach and Director of Skating, Kerry Bain.
