Brad Jacobs dropped an 8-5 decision to Niklas Edin of Sweden on Thursday to fall to 1-2 at the Players Championship, the final Grand Slam of Curling event of the season, in Saskatoon.
Edin jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to a pair in the opening end with the hammer.
After Jacobs got on the board with a single in the second end but Edin would stretch his lead with three in the third end.
The teams traded singles in the subsequent two ends before Edin capped off the win with a pair in the seventh end.
The Jacobs rink, which includes third Ryan Fry, second E.J. Harnden, and lead Ryan Harnden, picked up on a split on Wednesday and will wrap up round robin action on Friday against Ross Paterson of Scotland.
The Champions Cup features 15 men’s and 15 women’s teams dividend into three pools of five teams.
The top eight teams advance to playoff action, which begins on Saturday.
